Anchorage has 37 Community Council communities. One community – Airport Heights – participated in the 2018 Solarize Anchorage program. Four communities – Rogers Park, Turnagain, Spenard, and South Addition – are participating in the 2019 Solarize Anchorage program (if you live in one of these four communities, visit our Solarize Anchorage page for more information on how you can participate). That leaves homeowners in the other thirty-two Anchorage communities unable to take advantage of the Solarize Anchorage program for 2019. This is particularly unfortunate as 2019 is the last year that the major incentive for Alaskans—the 30% federal Solar Tax Credit—is in full force. Starting in 2020, that incentive starts getting phased out. To take advantage of this huge savings, it is imperative that your solar PV system is completed by Dec 31, 2019.

But don’t despair! We understand your dilemma. ABS Alaskan has set up our Anchorage Solar Project program so that homeowners outside the Solarize communities can still take advantage of the pricing and benefits of our Solarize Anchorage proposal under our Anchorage Solar Project program. Same low pricing! Same benefits! Same guarantees! And your solar PV system can be installed during 2019, allowing you to take full benefit of the 30% federal tax credit.

The goals of the programs are simple:

  • Make solar PV more accessible and affordable to homeowners and commercial property owners in the participating neighborhoods.
  • Substantially increase the number of solar PV installations in the community.
  • Lower the cost of solar PV energy by reducing customer acquisition costs for selected PV contractors and transferring those savings to residents.
  • Significantly ramp up adoption of solar PV in a way that can be sustained beyond the timeframe of the present Solarize Anchorage campaign.
